Drought conditions across much of New Mexico have been improving. According to this week鈥檚 U.S. Drought Monitor , 55 percent of the state is in moderate to severe drought. That鈥檚 down from 97 percent at this time last year.
This May is already one of the on record in Albuquerque. Climatologist David Dubois says forecasts are showing above average rainfall will continue for most of New Mexico.
鈥淸The] combination of El Ni帽o and that warmer Pacific along the coast, I think that is a pretty good recipe for above average," he said. "I wouldn鈥檛 say it鈥檚 a slam dunk.鈥�
Severe drought conditions that remain are in the northwest corner of the state, with moderate drought areas in the north and southwest.
