A senate committee killed a proposal Tuesday that would have required lobbyists to disclose more about how they influence lawmakers in Santa Fe.
The proposal called for lobbyists to explain who they gave money to and how much. It had already passed the House with bipartisan support, but died before the Senate Rules Committee.
Committee Co-Chair Sen. Daniel Ivey-Soto said he was conflicted and that the measure went a bit too far.
鈥淎s it [the bill] exists right now,鈥� Ivey-Soto explained, 鈥渋f a lobbyist goes and gets me a coke they have to report that. I don鈥檛 think any of us are influenced with a coke.鈥�
The bill had the support of some lobbyists but faced concerns from a representative of the Secretary of State鈥檚 office.
