Let's Talk New Mexico 6/11, 8a: June is Pride month, and in the midst of mass demonstrations for racial justice and an ongoing pandemic, this year鈥檚 celebration will undoubtedly look different. On this week's call-in show, we look at the black roots of Pride, including the 1969 Stonewall uprising that paved the way for LGBTQ rights today. We鈥檒l hear about the contributions of Black and Brown trans and cis women, and trans people of other genders, in the local and global Pride movement. Tenzin Malaika-Huisman (he/his) is a 16 year old, African-European-American transgender teen. Tenzin is part of the LGBTQ community and a sophomore in high school.
Freddie McCalmant-Bell, (he/his) is a fashion stylist and owner of in Albuquerque, an androgynous clothing store that supports queer artists. When Freddy performs as one of the few Black drag queens in Albuquerque, (she/her), her goal is to represent the voices of the queer, cis, and non-binary community.
