After canceling 2020鈥檚 LGBTQ Pride celebrations due to the pandemic, is pushing forward this month with mostly online events. The nonprofit has plans for an in-person celebration later this summer.
Albuquerque Pride is calling its June event series the 鈥淐oming Out of Pandemic Edition.鈥�&苍产蝉辫;
鈥淲e had a lot of outcry from last year that people just wanted something,鈥� said Neil Macernie, Vice President of Public Relations for the organization. He said that 鈥渟omething鈥� includes virtual events every weekend this month, including Sunday educational discussions and Friday night DJ sets for at-home dance parties.
Macernie said the group recently modified its Saturday variety shows to include an in-person component, though capacity is limited. 鈥淲e鈥檙e selling out very quickly, so we鈥檙e kind of putting out the link last minute,鈥� he said. 鈥淪o, as soon as we get it up, they鈥檒l be able to see it on or .鈥�&苍产蝉辫;
Macernie said a June Pride parade is off the table because the city still isn鈥檛 issuing event permits for the streets.
He said they will hold a slightly scaled-down 鈥淚n-Person Edition鈥� of Pride with entertainment and vendors at the state-run on August 20 and 21. Whether a colorful Nob Hill parade is a part of that will depend on the city鈥檚 shutdown status. 鈥淲e鈥檙e hopeful,鈥� said Macernie. 鈥淲e鈥檙e constantly checking with the city going, 鈥極K, where are we at? Can we go ahead and start planning for this?鈥欌��
Those looking for a parade during Pride Month aren鈥檛 totally out of luck, though. Unaffiliated with Albuquerque Pride, aCOVID-safe Pride car parade is scheduled to roll down Central Ave. this Saturday, June 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
