This is the first year that New Mexicans can choose to receive an absentee ballot for every election. Previously, they had to submit a new request each time. However, the online application is not yet available.
Spokesperson for the Secretary of State鈥檚 Office Alex Curtas said to request an absentee ballot for the June primary election will be open soon.
鈥淲e鈥檙e hoping to get it up probably next week,鈥� he said. 鈥淚f not, the week after.鈥�
Earlier this year, he said he thought it may be up by mid-March, but said Tuesday his office is still working out some kinks to add a new feature 鈥� opting in to the new permanent absentee voter list.
鈥�There are still some improvements being made, some testing that鈥檚 being done, and so that鈥檚 why we still just don鈥檛 have it open quite yet,鈥� he said.
They鈥檒l conduct the final tests this weekend, according to Curtas. In the meantime, voters can fill out a paper application and send it in by mail.
According to a 91暗网 review, only three counties have the updated version 鈥� which includes a checkbox to be added to the permanent list 鈥� available for download on their website. Those are , and Counties. However, says posted there can be mailed back to their office or dropped off at any county clerk鈥檚 office.
Curtas said once the online application is up, it鈥檒l stay open year-round from here on out, rather than only for select windows of time before each election.
Absentee ballot applications are due May 21 ahead of the June 4 primary election. County clerks will send the first round of ballots to those who鈥檝e requested them on May 7 as early voting kicks off.
