In this interview, Prof. Chavez shares with us the huapango arribe帽o鈥� a musical style born in the mountainous regions of north central Mexico 鈥� a music rich in composition and orquestration that also has profound community and political significance, as well as a family and personal history.
In his recent publication, (Duke University Press, 2017), Prof. Chavez shares with host his exploration of huapango arribe帽o麓s border crossing from community gatherings in Mexico as it traveled to patios in the U.S.A. His work transcends academic scholarship with the production of an album, , one of the leading groups of this genre for the Smithsonian Folkways Recordings (Serie Tradiciones).
