On Monday, the governor announced a two-week program offering free vaccinations to children before school starts.
The will run the program with money from the state鈥檚 general fund to cover vaccinations for uninsured children.
Gov. Susana Martinez announced the initiative at a news conference.
"Vaccinations play a huge role in keeping our children health and strong, because we know that healthy children generally miss less school," she said.
The program will offer vaccinations to insured kids, too, and insurance companies will reimburse the state for vaccination costs.
The Health Department鈥檚 initiative follows several flu-related deaths last year, as well as several cases of measles, both of which are preventable by vaccine.
