We’re excited to announce that the Habitat housing application period will begin next week as we look for the next local family to partner with in building a safe, affordable home. To help interested individuals understand the process, we will be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, September 22nd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kit Carson Electric Boardroom (118 Cruz Alta Rd, Taos). During the meeting, we’ll review qualifications, requirements, and the application process in detail. We strongly encourage all potential applicants to attend this session to determine eligibility before beginning the application.
Applications will be available that evening at the meeting, as well as at the Habitat main office (504 Salazar Rd., Taos) Monday through Thursday between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Starting September 23rd, applications can also be picked up at either of the ReStore locations.

Stories and Songs Writing Retreat in Montana/Yellowstone - Sept. 22-26, 2025. Immerse yourself in pristine mountains and write under starry skies. For prose storytellers and songwriters. With novelist/memoirist/essayist Carolyn Flynn, novelist and lyricist Karen Leslie and the Grammy-nominated songwriter Clay Mills of Songtown. For people who write stories that sound like songs, and songwriters who write songs that tell stories. (Or, come and write both!)www.storiesandsongsretreat.com. Only three slots left!
ADDITIONAL COPYCarolyn Flynn and Karen Leslie’s long-cherished vision: To host a writing retreat offering generative workshops in the art of Storytelling and Songwriting, and where the setting is exceptional. Stories & Songs Writing Retreat materialized out of that vision with three tracks: Storyteller, Songwriter, and Hybrid, each aimed at producing new writing and new songs.
They wanted a writing retreat with workshops featuring individual feedback and cross-genre study that examines the shared elements between stories and songs: musicality, lyricism, rhyming action, compression, voice, recurring motifs, “flashbulb” images, co-writing, patterns, arc, and repetition. Together with Grammy-nominated hit songwriter Clay Mills (Songwriter Track), they mapped out a dive deep into creativity, craft, and process.
The last part of the puzzle fell into place when thinking about the actual time at the retreat. So, they designed the workshop schedule with dedicated writing blocks built in—all while living and eating in an inspiring place. Carolyn, Karen, and Clay believe the perfect setting brings stardust to the Stories & Songs Writing Retreat.

Join novelist/lyricist Karen Leslie Mills and memoirist/novelist Carolyn Dawn Flynn for 1.5 hours of pristine writing time. We'll get in about 50 minutes of writing, then have sharing time. This also is your chance to Ask Us Anything about writing and publication.
HOW IT WORKS: We’ll say a quick hello and start the silent writing time (about 50 minutes). If you need prompts, we’ll provide a few in the chat. If not, bring your project and start writing! Are you a songwriter? No worries! Song ideas are everywhere. Use our prompts to generate ideas for a new or hard-to-finish song.
SHARING We believe sharing is an integral part of your writing practice. We’ll make time in the last bit (15 minutes) for sharing. We’ll choose randomly from whomever volunteers in the chat. You’ll have 3 minutes (max) to share something. But, don’t be nervous. This is not about polish, but about your practice!
At the end, we’ll make time for a craft or publishing tips Q & A (15 minutes) and send you off into your real world.
