Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is expected to sign a measure into law that will require background checks for virtually all private gun sales except for sales of antiques and between relatives.
Gun safety advocates have been pushing for this type of legislation for years.

And Cheryl Haase, with the local chapter of Moms Demand Action, said the group is thrilled.
鈥淭his law in other states that have enacted it,鈥� she said. 鈥淚t will save New Mexican lives, most definitely.鈥�
All Republicans in the House and Senate opposed the bill. Some Democrats crossed party lines to vote against it.
It was also challenged by sheriffs around the state. A bunch of them have said they will not enforce it.
