It鈥檚 decision time for people hoping to get elected to leadership at the state鈥檚 largest public school district. Next Tuesday is the deadline to file for candidacy in the
Out of the , three are up for election this November.
罢丑别谤别鈥檚 , which is currently represented by Yolanda Montoya-Cordova. stretches north and west of the river up to Rio Rancho and Corrales; Peggy Muller-Arag贸n holds that seat. is in southeast Albuquerque and represented by Barbara Petersen.
All three incumbents are running for re-election this fall.
The school board sets district policies, approves and oversees a $1.6 billion dollar budget, and makes decisions about the superintendents鈥� job.
All candidates must file their paperwork with the on Tuesday, August 27.
School board members are paid per diem on meeting days, but don鈥檛 receive other APS compensation.
New Mexico school board races are held separately from other elections and historically have low turnout. The last school board election two years ago drew less than seven percent of eligible voters.
